Creatine Mesh Sizes Explained

Creatine mesh sizes translate to microns like this: 80 mesh is roughly 180 microns, 200 mesh roughly 75 microns, 300 mesh roughly 50 microns, and 500 mesh roughly 25 microns, and the right grade depends on the product you are making, not on a bigger number being better. This guide covers the whole range, including the ultra-fine grades most mesh guides stop short of.

Mesh to micron reference

Mesh (nominal)Approximate particle sizeTypical use
80 meshabout 180 micronsTablets, dense fills, slow-dissolution applications
200 meshabout 75 micronsStandard micronized grade: powders, capsules, blends
300 meshabout 50 micronsFine grade: improved mixability, stick packs, effervescents
500 meshabout 25 micronsUltra-fine: gummies, RTD, suspension and premium mixing

A mesh spec means the powder passes that sieve, so it caps the largest particles. Two lots at the same mesh can still behave differently, which is why the full particle size distribution matters on the spec sheet.

How mesh changes behavior

  • Dissolution and mixability improve as particles get smaller, which is the visible difference in a shaker
  • Sedimentation slows with finer particles, which matters for RTD and suspension products
  • Texture: 200 mesh is detectable as grit in a gummy, ultra-fine grades are not
  • Handling: finer powders dust more and flow differently, so production equipment matters
  • Cost: finer classification steps add real production cost, which is why ultra-fine grades price above standard 200 mesh

The honesty rule for fine mesh

Beyond about 325 mesh, sieve testing is impractical, so any 400, 500 or 600 mesh claim is nominal. The credible version of the claim is a laser-diffraction distribution with D50 and D90 in microns on the specification, which is how we document our fine grades per quality and compliance. If a supplier quotes ultra-fine mesh with no micron data, ask for the distribution, and watch what happens.
